About

Me

If you’ve read the little chunk of text in the grey box to the top right, you’ve probably already found out that I’m a college student/web developer. I’m currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Calgary and work as a web developer on the side — freelancing.

I started off with HTML when Geocities was all the rage many years ago then somehow kept up with it. I started playing around with Adobe GoLive, and Microsoft Frontpage but turned back to good ol’ plain-text editors like TextMate (my fav) when I found out that was how the pros did it.

After joining onboard deviantART, I ran into a fellow deviantARTist named Bram and learned about freelancing doing web design. The profession interested me and soon I started freelancing doing the odd job here and there while in high school.

Later on, I was fortunate enough to land a stint with Critical Mass where I learned plenty about the digital advertising industry and experienced what it was like to work for big brands like Valvoline and Mercedes-Benz. Thanks to the vast amount of knowledge I learnt paired with the programming skills I gained while working/learned in computer science lectures, I managed to develop a Facebook application for Wii owners which has a userbase of 10000+ and is still growing strong. After a year I decided to go back to school and now I’m back in college trying to finish what I’ve started.

If you’d like to see more work that I’ve done, you can see my portfolio over at samlu.ca.
